The Dallas Voice highlights a small milestone for Dallas’ Cathedral of Hope, a congregation of the United Church of Christ that primarily serves LGBTQ people. For the first time in its 41-year history, it will host a Children’s Christmas Pageant. Senior Pastor Jo Hudson thinks the celebration should be par for the course of the church’s growth, writing, “Who would have thought that a ‘gay’ church would ever have enough children to have a Children’s Christmas Pageant? Well, interestingly enough . . . God would have thought it, and God continues to dream great dreams for our church. I hope to see you Sunday as the dream comes to life through our children.”

An exciting new play is taking place in San Fransisco.

Judge Terry A. Bain signed off on the decision by immigration authorities not to deport Monica Alcota, an Argentine woman who wanted to stay in the United States after marrying her Queens girlfriend.

“We are extremely happy. It’s been a whole three years. Finding out about Monica no longer being deported is amazing,” said a jubilant Cristina Ortega of Elmhurst, a social worker.

The two were married last year.

An eight year old who shyly challenged a Republican presidential candidate’s stance on homosexuals said he was not forced to do so.

Elijah Cromer of Myrtle Beach and his mother, Lora Talbot, say the 8 year old was not forced or coached when he approached Rep. Michele Bachmann at a book signing in Myrtle Beach on Sunday, whispering to the congresswoman “My mom is gay, but she doesn’t need any fixing.”

The parents of the boy promised that he wasn't coached to say this. Elijah grew up in an unconventional type home. A lesbian mother and a transgendered father. Although he realized he has more of an alternative family he knew his family wasn't broken. According to his mother, when Elijah saw Michele Bachmann on the bus from her book tour he wanted to say something to her.

So the mother agreed to take him the the book signing.

Quiet and shy Elijah kept his word by whispering "My mommy is gay but she doesn't need fixing" in the ear of conservative christian Rep. Michele Bachmann. Shocked, Michele smiled and told the boy to have a nice day.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved clinical trials in humans for a new HIV vaccine. HIV is the virus that is the cause of AIDS.

If the vaccine works, it will kill the whole HIV virus. The vaccine (SAV001) is based on a genetically modified HIV virus strand that was killed. A researcher and professor at The University of Western Ontario's Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, Dr. Chil-Yong Kang explains more.

The report, released today by the UN Office for the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva, outlines “a pattern of human rights violations… that demands a response,” and says governments have too often overlooked violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

The report documents homophobic and transphobic violence. The document records from every region of the world, writing down kidnappings, assults, rapes, and threats of deprivations of liberty.

“Violence against LGBT persons tends to be especially vicious compared to other bias-motivated crimes,” the report notes, citing data indicating that homophobic hate crimes often include “a high degree of cruelty and brutality.”

You may have all seen the youtube video of Jonah Mowry expressing his deepest sadness to his friends. A video that was encouraged to be upload on youtube (many months later) as a means of encouragement and inspiration to many others who may be going through the same things. Now, he's being called a liar.

"The struggle to end discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons is a global challenge, and one that is central to the United States' commitment to promoting human rights," Obama said in a statement.

Gay rights groups praised the order as a significant step for ensuring that gays and lesbians are treated equally around the world.

"Today's actions by President Obama make clear that the United States will not turn a blind eye when governments commit or allow abuses to the human rights of LGBT people," said Joe Solmonese, president of the Human Rights Campaign, a gay advocacy organization.
