Thoroughbred horse racing has long been established as ‘The Sport of Kings’, but on Friday, February 26 the tradition is undergoing a fabulous makeover as the Pink Stiletto Race Day will bring both the kings and ‘queens’ down to Royal Randwick.
Presented as part of this year’s Mardi Gras Festival, the Pink Stiletto is the world’s very first gay and lesbian race day, and will be sure to attract thousands of racegoers, gay and straight.
Leading the charge as the Pink Stiletto Ambassador is Australia’s queen of racing, Gai Waterhouse.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to introduce a new audience to the sport of kings – the excitement and fun on and off the track, not to mention the opportunity to frock up and flaunt your individual style,” Waterhouse says.
“It’s a fantastic initiative that will liven up racing and make the sport more approachable to young people, and it will certainly be the most outrageous Fashions on the Field!”
Fund raising from the day will go directly to the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation (BGF), which provides practical, emotional and financial support to people living in poverty with HIV.
The Pink Stiletto Race Day is on Friday, February 26 at Royal Randwick Racecourse from 11am and goes all day. $15. pinkstiletto.com.au
