It's amazing what you'll find as you flip through the channels. My girl and I came across a special by CNBC called Porn: Business of Pleasure. No, it's not a show full of raunchy and racy porn clips and where to find it, nor is it a show talking about how good pornography makes people feel, but rather this special talked about the industry of porn; the profits, the leadership and the production.

For those of you who download music and DVD's you'll be familiar with this complaint, "DVD sales are down as much as 50 percent in the last year — pounded by a weak economy, piracy and free or cheap porn on the Internet". Why pay for something you can have for free? Because you get what you pay for - and cheap isn't always the best thing to have. When something is worth they buy, people will be more than glad to pay for it. There are extras and specials, cover art, and coupons that just can't be downloaded (unless you subscribe for a downloading site by PAYING for a membership....and in that case, why not just BUY the product for high quality in its entirety than trying to borrow it).

People like being able to own something, touch something if not NO DVD or CDs would ever be sold. Being mobile internet is the way to go - so why not embrace it? People who watch internet porn like a "quick fix" as to people who buy it. With something you've bought, you want to enjoy it over and over. So offer DVD signings more often by favorite stars (add a line to the contract of the lowest desired one. Require them to do more signings a year. Doesn't matter the popularity...make sure your movie is good and people love a porn star). Offer more positions for "quick fixes" and start your own online division. Therefore tapping into the internet market. You already have the brand so why not offer it? And then hire me to do all of their online marketing and web development =). Or offer a special promotion they can only find online, offered by the DVD set that they bought in stores.

I'm pretty sure they are working on some of these methods, but just saying there is a way to combat internet entertainment as well as piracy.

Something else I thought was pretty cool was the fact that women are taking more roles behind the scenes instead of in front of the screens. "Samantha Lewis is CEO of Digital Playground, which produced the popular Pirates and Pirates 2 adult films," and "Joy King is VP of Special Projects at Wicked Pictures,". These are just a few women who are proving that beautiful successful women and break the social molds and be leaders in industries that are usually FOR men BY men. While these women are not lesbian women, there are more companies that are catering to and for women since they are the highest growing demographic (abbywinters.com, lesbianfactor.com)

And yes, technology may be changing but it's not to keep the industry down. If they know the right way to do it, they can use it to their advantage. Dominate the world of mobile porn, lesbian porn(for women by women to women) or fetish porn. There is an audience for everything out there if it's done right. People still choose to pay because the bottom line is sex makes people feel good (it's scientifically proven). Movies are becoming more high tech (Pirates II) - which is great for those who love a story plot or animation freaks - and the quality is getting better. So much is changing in the production itself that people would pay to have this kind of quality. So "jump on it" so to speak and produce an old product with a new spin - use the technology that is threatening you. For those of us who take the cheaper route, remember to give back every once in a while and contribute to the industry that is releasing those endorphins in your brain.

There is so much that the companies can do. Everything from offering Porn on demand to offering exclusive content for higher quality and comparable prices. Porn is something that has been around for such a long time and is most likely here to stay for much longer than we are. From mobile porn to Carls Jr. commercials people all around agree that sex sells. The Porn industry may seem to be declining, but not disappearing. Just take for example the change in leadership, the increasing budget in technology and production and the new profit stream. I say we should help build them up =).
